Secretary of Agriculture with Watermelon Board Staff

Secretary of Agriculture Sonny Perdue took time from his busy schedule in Washington, D.C. to meet with the National Watermelon Promotion Board president Ed McClellan and staff. NWPB Executive Director Mark Arney presented the Secretary with a watermelon that prompted him to say he is a big fan of watermelon. The Secretary was pleased to learn from staff how the NWPB operated and its interaction with the USDA. This was the highlight of the NWPB’s trip to D.C. that included other meetings with USDA agencies at FAS and AMS. Secretary Perdue was very hospitable and his staff encouraged us to visit him again next time we were in our nation’s capital.
