Ross is an eighth-generation watermelon farmer and professional race car (and truck) driver.
Ross brings his passion for watermelon and agriculture to the racetrack through a watermelon-themed stock car for select races. He is nicknamed The Watermelon Man, Melon Man, and The Busiest Driver in NASCAR.
Ross Chastain shifted gears in 2019 midseason to run for the NASCAR Gander Outdoors Truck Series championship with Niece Motorsports in 2019. Chastain’s first Gander Trucks win came at Kansas in May, followed by wins at World Wide Technology Raceway at Gateway and Pocono Raceway. He has made starts this season in the Xfinity Series for JD Motorsports and Kaulig Racing as well as the Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series for Premium Motorsports. He earned his first Xfinity Series victory at Las Vegas in 2018, driving for Chip Ganassi Racing on a part-time basis. His second Xfinity win came at Daytona International Speedway with Kaulig Racing.
