As stated in the mission, the NWPB is charged to increase consumer demand for watermelon through promotion, research and education. The research program is responsible for developing and implementing research to help support the promotion and education programs, health and nutrition research, and other topics supporting the promotion of watermelon. Research topics include:

- Health & Nutrition Research
